The Rotary Club is an international association of business people, executives and professionals who engage in projects for voluntary work and humanitarian initiatives to promote good will and peace in the world.
The aim of Rotarians – around 1.2 millions, belonging to more than 32,000 Clubs in over 200 Countries and geographical areas – is to promote high ethical standards in the professional sphere and to accomplish projects to deal with the world's most pressing problems, such as illiteracy, disease, hunger, poverty, lack of drinking water and environmental issues.
Founded in 1905 in Chicago, the Rotary Club rapidly spread to the rest of the world. Non-political and non-confessional, membership of Rotary Clubs is open persons of all races, cultures and creeds who meet each week to cultivate personal and professional relations and to discuss topical issues and problems.
