There are cities that shine in the light of the summer sun and that are beautiful, Milan is a winter city and in winter, covered by fog and frost, looks its best.
We arrived in front of the spires in a moment of the night in which the square is empty and the city still sleeps; it was a day near Christmas after months of work and after a party that made us happy and tired. We were looking for a taxi but we stopped talking in front of the entrance of the Cathedral.
Usually two person speaking stand one in front of the other, but we automatically turned to the Duomo and started talking about the city: its beauties and its dark corners, the sunset among the streets of Brera during the autumn, the Navigli and the reborn Darsena, the memories of the city when we were young. Word after word we stood in front of the Cathedral for four hours, with our hands in pocket and still looking at the Cathedral.
We thought we were a strange show seen from the spires: “who knows what do these two want in front of the door of our house” we imagined they told. But we didn’t want anything, just to keep talking admiring that monument of perseverance, symbol of Milan.
We chose to get the Carelli’s spire because it’s the most antique and because it represents a man who loved the project of the Veneranda Fabbrica before anyone. We think it’s the right way to remember a night we loved and that sometimes we remember.
