Get your Spire and Duomo Friend

The Cathedral’s art and history of yesterday, today suitable for children

It is over six hundred years, without interruption, that the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano has been ensuring both the preservation and architectural and artistic restoration of the Cathedral, with passion and dedication, as well as the valorization and promotion of the extraordinary heritage of art, culture and history that it possesses.

The entire Monument is made up of the Candoglia’s marble, precious and fragile material that needs constant care. For that reason in 2012 the Veneranda Fabbrica launched a new fund raising campaign, Get your Spire. Carve your name in history.

The attention to the restoration of the Cathedral is a responsibility shared by all citizens with no age limits. It’s with the aim of bringing all the knowledge of the Cathedral that Duomo Friend was born last November. It’s a new and engaging way to learn step by step the Cathedral’ secrets, through more and different paths suitable for family. Duomo Friend is an opportunity for children to learn while having fun in the Great Duomo Museum and daydreaming on the Terraces. All this thanks to an exclusive guided tour among the spires that, with precious ornaments and statues, hide faces and stories of a distant past. The guided tour is organized in partnership with Get your Spire and it will allow children to discover the adoption’s project of the 135 spires.

Another initiative to involve children is AUG kids, which is born within the fundraising project Get your Spire. Thanks to a donation, even just 1 Euro, it will be possible for children to "adopt" one of the 135 spires and become part of the great Book of the donors of the Duomo that has always been kept in the Archive of the Veneranda Fabbrica.
