Next May 10, mothers all over the world will be celebrated during the Mother’s Day.
This celebration originated in ‘50s and it is related to two occurrences that show how in that period in Italy the need of establishing an official recurrence was urgent. The aim was to celebrate the importance of motherhood, both for society and family.
In 1956 the Bordighera mayor Raul Zaccari, decided to organize a feast for mothers of the city, during the second Sunday of May.
Next year on May 12, 1957 also Don Otello Migliosi, parish in Tordibetto di Assisi, chose to remark the importance of motherhood, even as for what it concerns religion.
So it was that in 1958, Zuccari submitted a bill to the Senate of Republic, with the aim of establishing the Mother’s Day; since that moment, the celebration has occurred every year on May 8.
Then, in 2000, it turned into a moving recurrence that now happens every second Sunday in May.
