Next April 13th at 15.30, a new guided tour to meet with Alessio della Tarchetta's story

It is possible to carve your name in Milan Cathedral history: the story of Alessio della Tarchetta, soldier of fortune serving Sforzas during the V century, is an evidence of that. Soldier of humble origins, Tarchetta made his fortune in Milan, standing out thanks to his courage among Sforza’s army lines.

After he served for two years in Milan, he decided to confirm his devotion to Holy Mary, to whom he ascribed his success, with a donation to the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo that, in 1478, allowed to decorate the Madonna del Pilone image, placed at the center of the Cathedral.

In memory of such a devotion, at the end of restorations the Veneranda Fabbrica affixed a plaque in honor of Tarchetta on the renewed altar, where the fortune of the now captain at the Arengo court was attributed to Holy Mary, for whom he said he had «ornato questo loco […] benché sia poco*».

This notable donor's story did not stop to this event.

On his death, Alessio della Tarchetta decided to devote himself to the beloved city with one last donation to the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo, by giving his home and all his clothes.

After they had been rediscovered on 1832, it is now possible to admire the original plaques in memory of Tarchetta inside the Cathedral, over an aedicule of the northern aisle that is still named Monumento Tarchetta.

The guided tour on next April 13th 2015 at 15.30 will give donors the chance of coming to know a story of solidarity that still today, thanks to their support, keep on over centuries, carving thousands of names in the history of Milan Cathedral, which is a devotion and culture center in Milan.

It will be possible to take part in a unique guided tour at the Veneranda Fabbrica Historical Archive where, since the origins of the Cathedral, are kept all documents linked with its history and creation. Tours will be open to every donor who subscribes the campaign with an endowment of  € 100,00 or more.

The guided tours are open each day to a group of about 16 people, subject to availability. Each donor can come with a partner.
