The public appeal also uses 2.0 technology to reach young people, Italians living abroad and all the people around the world who are capable of being moved by the history of the Duomo. The campaign actually begins with a serious challenge for the people of Milan, whom the Veneranda Fabbrica asks to support the spires located on the North walkway. An engraving will commemorate the mobilization of the people of Milan. It is a huge investment: the Duomo is not only a world centre of Christianity and a social and cultural reference point, but also the city’s most important economic engine.
Even € 1,00 will be sufficient to allow every person from Milan to be an important part of this great story.
It was the work and the efforts of the local population that made such a grandiose Monument possible. The Duomo could not exist without the people of Milan, nor could Milan exist without the Duomo, which represents the city’s identity. Which is why the population is being asked to perform an act of great responsibility.
All the participants are recorded on the List of the Donors of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, drafted on paper and published online in the site adottaunaguglia.duomomilano.it the donor’s consent).
For a contribution of € 50,00 or more, a certificate of donation will be issued on request. If the donor wishes to personalize his or her contribution, the certificate can also indicate the name of a particular spire to which the donation is symbolically directed, the name of one or more persons to whom it is dedicated and even a dedication. This represents the opportunity to “gift” a donation, with prior consent of the person involved, who has to authorize the processing of his or her personal data.
All those who sign up to the fundraising campaign with a donation of at least € 100,00 will also be entitled to take a free guided tour, with a companion, as part of the Get your Spire and Discover the Archives programme. These visits take place every month for groups of approximately 16 people, subject to availability. People taking part will follow a unique itinerary, which tells the story of Milan and its Cathedral, starting from the precious documents conserved in the Veneranda Fabbrica Archives. The donors who have authorized its publication will also be able to read their names on the paper copy of the List of Donors.
Donors are sent a thank-you letter by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo illustrating the guidelines of the programme, in order to involve subscribers fully in the precise goals of the project. By responding to the public appeal, they are entitled to receive information and communications regarding the initiatives linked to the Get your Spire programme and to the cultural activities promoted by the Veneranda Fabbrica.
Each donor is treated as unique: donations are carefully recorded digitally and also assigned a protocol number (e.g. AUG-01-0100), and a paper folder is compiled that includes all the correspondence between the Veneranda Fabbrica and the donor, which is subsequently stored in the Archives. The protocol numbers are carefully indicated on the certificates, which can even be sent to the donor by electronic mail or ordinary mail, or collected from the Donations Office.
