Everybody supporting the fundraising campaign Get your Spire with a 100,00 € minimum donation, will be granted the possibility to discover a unique tour which, starting from the precious documents preserved in the Veneranda Fabbrica’s Archive, will tell the story of Milan and its Cathedral.
Speaking about the Cathedral means to speak about its people, about everybody who, in over six centuries of history, has contributed according to his possibilities to the construction, and then the maintenance, of the great Monument.
Each object, offering, or cloth donated had been carefully registered and used in the construction: mother-of-pearl buttons, candles, cloaks and tablecloths are just some of the many donations recorded in the Archive’s documents, historic memory of the Institution, the heritage of which is open to the public and now accessible to the new donors, thanks to the exclusive tours dedicated to them. The new appointment is scheduled for the 19th January 2015, at 15.30.
Place of incredible charm, the Archive shows the Veneranda Fabbrica’s gratitude towards all donors, humble or great, who made real the Monument we can admire today. This is recorded in documents such as the pages included in the Oblation Register, in which the glass of wine, granted to the donors to reciprocate their deed for the Cathedral’s construction, are registered (from: The precious old Register of donors chronicles popular history)
“Better than praise, grateful admiration is due to those who, with great generosity, contributed to the construction of the immense Monument. Beyond any social difference, everybody rushed to bring his oblation for the great undertaking, giving materials, money and things”. With the same gratitude shown in its Annals, today the Veneranda Fabbrica is glad to thank the over two thousand donors who, with the same dedication of the past, are healing the wounds in the marble stones, slowly eroded by Time. The number of donors could still grow, thanks to the fundraising project Get your Spire, in order to leave an unforgettable sign among the pages of a still-to-write Future.
The guided tours are open each day to a group of about 16 people, on a first come first served basis. Each donor can come with a partner.
